Consuelo “Marlo” Oliva Serrano was born in Quezon City, Philippines on March 23, 1943, the only daughter of Soledad Santos and Tomas Oliva. She peacefully passed away surrounded by her three children on July 19, 2026, just thirty days after the passing of her beloved husband of over fifty-seven years, Carlos “Lito” Serrano.

She is survived by her three children: Cecilia Serrano-McLaughlin, Conrad Serrano and Cristina McBride; sons-in-law: Eric McLaughlin and Graham McBride; grandchildren: Lucy and Max McLaughlin, Cuchulainn and Beibhinn McBride and grandpets: Birdy and Pickles McLaughlin, Milo McBride and Monkey Serrano.

Marlo graduated with honors from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines. She met the love of her life, Carlos, at work in Manila and they married on December 13, 1968. Soon after, they moved to the United States where Marlo pursued her lifelong career as a Certified Public Accountant at companies such as ACCO, IBEW, Licorice Pizza, Van de Kamp’s Bakery, Arrowhead Brass and R.B. Clapp while raising a happy and loving family in the Los Angeles area. Marlo was her children’s biggest fan. She never missed a performance, competition, recital or event. She deeply valued education and achieved her dream of attending the college graduation of all of her children. Later in life, she volunteered countless hours at Glendale Memorial Hospital’s gift shop and Incarnation Catholic Church, continuing her commitment to the community and bringing comfort and smiles to everyone around her.

Outside of her generous volunteer work, she joyfully spent time with friends and family. She delighted in giving to others and it was common for someone to compliment her on something she owned and for her to say “I want you to have it!” She was a devoted animal lover who raised and adored four happy pugs over the years. Marlo had a vibrant sense of style, proudly curating and carrying a collection of Kate Spade handbags, and she could always be found enthusiastically cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Marlo was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to giving generously, loving her family fiercely and leaning into the passions that made her unique.

A mass in Marlo’s honor and a celebration of her life will be held at Incarnation Catholic Church in Glendale, California on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11amPST (1001 N.
