Willie Jean Hill was born in Oakland, California on March 3, 1944 to the joyous union of Truman and Lucile Dean. She was the second child of eight children, two boys and six girls. Immediately, she became the light which illuminates our family even to this day.
Residing in Oakland, California Jean became a member of Galilee Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Mack Lasenby. The foundation and the basic moral fiber of her life were developed there. At a very early age she was actively involved in Sunday School, Y.P.W.W., the choir, and various youth programs. Jean received her education in the Oakland Public Schools where she distinguished herself intellectually by skipping a primary grade and embarking upon advanced studies. Jean was a leader, pursuing life with zest and vigor. She was very popular among her many friends. She was a proud graduate of Oakland Technical High School.
As the elder sister of a large family, Jean assumed many responsibilities and carried them well. Her younger brother and sisters looked up to her with admiration and respect. For her siblings, she was "the one." Often trapped inside due to inclement weather, Jean would read to her siblings from the Lois Lenski series "Mama Hattie's Girl." Her rendition was complete with southern accents, intonation and antics. She was witty, funny, and their very own live entertainment. Jean was the one who they told "stuff" to: problems, joys and secrets. She was the one who answered their questions. She was her sibling's counselor, friend, and life coach.
Shortly following graduation, Jean moved to Pasadena, California where she met the love of her life, Alec Renard Hill. After a whirlwind courtship of four months, they were married and subsequently, celebrated 48 years of matrimony. To their union, three children were born. Jean was a lovely wife who was attentive to her husband. They were partners in dealing with the pursuits and challenges of life. To her children she was a super mom, their friend, and their confidante. Mrs. Hill was an excellent cook; she once confided that her most important ingredient was love. She was a lover of flair, fashion, and shopping. Her elegance and creativity was exhibited in her home décor and personal dress. She will be long remembered for her warmth and hospitality.
Occasionally, Mrs. Hill worked as an assembler for various Southern California corporations. In 1994, however, she joined the staff of Palms Chapel Mortuary, where she served as a Service Attendant in addition to various other office and administrative functions.
â¦â¦â¦. Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. Rev 14:13
In 1999, Mrs. Hill committed her life to Christ, commencing her discipleship with Saint Luke Bible Fellowship, where she grew in grace and the knowledge of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She served faithfully during her tenure as the assistant Director of Women Affairs, member of the Prayer Band, and Pastor's Aid President.
