William W. Wong

February 22, 1930 — October 15, 2015

William W. Wong is remembered as a strong and loving person. His quiet strength was always there for his loved ones -- his wife, his daughters, his family and his friends. Bill is much loved and greatly missed. His presence continues to remain a part of all the lives he touched.

Bill was born on February 22, 1930 in Shanghai, China to a landed family from Canton. Wanting a better future with possibilities, he bravely left home at the age of 18 to forge a new life and a new beginning in Hong Kong. He was a respected police officer, marksman and trainer in Hong Kong. Bill envisioned a better life for his family, especially his daughters, and immigrated to Hawaii where he lived for many years.

While in Hawaii, he did all the things that parents do in paradise, from daily events like taking his daughters to school to weekends spent with family like picnics at the park after a day at the beach. One of his dreams was for both daughters to complete college since his own education was interrupted by some of the historical events in his country. He saw both daughters graduate and became a lifelong Trojans fan. Because family was always the center of his life, he and his wife, Linda, moved to Southern California to be closer to his two daughters.

Bill had the opportunity to travel with his family on many holidays. These visits included countries in South East Asia, many of the ski resorts in both the Western United States and Canada, China and Alaska to name a few. Time spent together with his family and friends is what brought him the most joy.

William Wong passed away peacefully, at the age of 85, in his sleep, surrounded by his family on October 15, 2015 with his favorite Nat King Cole playing. He is survived by his wife Linda, his daughters Ivy and Irene, his son-in-law David, his nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephew.

Missed always, but never forgotten. Love is forever.
