Brentwood, NH: William L. White, 86, died Saturday evening, April 14, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Everett, Massachusetts, son of the late William C. and Vida Mae (Thistle) White, he was raised and educated in Saugus, graduating from Saugus High School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as a Technical Sergeant and was a recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Mr. White received his degree in Metallurgy from Northeastern University and was employed as an engineer for thirty years at Gillette Co, retiring as a Senior Engineer in Research and Development in 1984.
A former resident of Peabody and Saugus before moving to Brentwood thirty years ago, he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Haverhill, and the Church Board, and a former member of the Church of the Nazarene, Saugus, where he was active and held several positions within the congregation.
Mr. White enjoyed fishing, gardening and golfing as a member of Apple Hill Golf Club, East Kingston. He was also an accomplished carpenter and builder, who built his own home.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Violet (Hussey) White, a son and daughter-in-law, W. John and Juliet White of Alton Bay, a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn J. and Fred Beckwith of Atkinson, two brothers, Rev. Herbert M. White of Duxbury, MA, and Rev. Richard White of Holly Springs, NC, two sisters, Thelma Caffarella of Tucson, AZ, and Lois Perry of Forestdale, MA, five grandchildren, Daniel P. Beckwith, Heather (Beckwith) Scalera and her husband David, Krista (White) Casler and her husband Jesse, Kara (White) Prahl and her husband Matthew, and Timothy White and his wife Holly, also six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Route 121A) Plaistow Village. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10a.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, Kenoza St., Haverhill, MA. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday afternoon in the State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
