William Alfred Monaghan

William (Bill) Alfred Monaghan, loving husband, father and provider to both friends and family, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the age of 73, with his family and friends at his bedside. William is survived by his wife, Desda Monaghan; 2 daughters, Mary Monaghan and Sharon Pierson; 2 sons, William Monaghan, Jr. and Michael Monaghan; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister, Dorothy Pelletier. William was born in Tehachapi, Calif.; he graduated from Norte Del Rio High School in Sacramento, Calif. After many years with Sambo's restaurants in California and Iowa, he retired and became a car owner in USAC, ARCA and NASCAR racing. Upon moving back to California, he settled in Palm Desert, Calif. and went into building houses for a number of years. He became involved with The Great Race, an old car rally organization and spent 11 years rallying around the county with friends and family until his illness put an end to his treks. William was an extraordinarily generous man who helped many organization and individuals alike. William is and will be greatly missed by many. There will be no service.
