William David Hardie

January 2, 1936 — September 17, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William D. Hardie, beloved son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and dear friend. Bill passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and unforgettable memories.

Born to David and Cynthia Hardie on January 2, 1936, Bill grew up in Long Beach, California, where he developed lasting friendships and became a cherished part of the community. He was a loving son who always put his family first, and his devotion to his loved ones was evident in every aspect of his life. As a brother, he provided unwavering support, guidance, and affection.

His role as “Uncle Bill” was one that he took to heart. His nieces and nephews, as well as their children, will remember him for his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and generosity. He never missed a birthday, holiday, or celebration of their successes and major life events. He became much more than an uncle and was like a second father to them all.

As a friend, Bill was known for his loyalty, generosity, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He had the remarkable ability to make those around him feel valued and understood. Whether sharing a quiet conversation or embarking on an adventure, his presence was always a source of warmth and light.

Bill loved great food, rubbing elbows with celebrities, and name dropping in his cherished annual Christmas letter. Bill was always up for an adventure with his lifelong friend Phil Pitchford, including trips to Yosemite, which was one of his favorite places. There were many Neil Diamond concerts enjoyed over the years as well, one of his favorite performers.

Bill was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother Robert Hardie, and sister Betty Jo Hardie. He is also the last of his generation in this branch of the Hardie family.

While his passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him, his memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
