William Hafner, 93, born on January 10, 1930, in Saint Paul, MN, United States, passed away March 21, 2023. He resided in Maplewood, MN at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA.
Our incredible dad, Bill Hafner passed peacefully in Palm Springs, CA while holding the hand of our equally incredible mom, Gloria. He was the original Superman and she remains the original Wonder Woman. They had ten of us children and dedicated their lives to providing for us, teaching us and loving us. They are blessed with 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. More to come.
Reading electric meters was dad’s primary full-time job for 42 years. His secondary job, and favorite, was officiating high school and college football, baseball and basketball for over 40 years. He worked the state championships in each for years. Many have said dad was, “One hell of an umpire” and “One hell of a ballplayer”. Granddaughter Victoria adds that he was “one hell of a grandpa, too”. Dad was a gifted athlete who taught us kids to “Just keep moving!” We all did and still do. He loved the outdoors (especially when warm), being at the lake (in it or on it), catching fish (which he would filet in a flash) and hunting for a deal (he found countless).
Dad is survived by mom, Gloria, and children Tom (Denise), son-in-law Joe Adrian, Dave, Rich (Rose), Nancy Bean (Raymond), Bill Jr. (Bernadette), Bob, Dan (Jane) and 48 grandchildren. Daughters Carrie, Pat (Joe) and infant William preceded him in death. He is also survived by his sisters Lu Hammer, Mary Ann Pojar (Don) and brother Michael Hafner (Elaine).
So much more could be said, in typical Hafner style. For now, a wealth of words and memories will be saved for dad’s service and celebration late April or early May in St. Paul, MN. When determined, dates and details will be announced.
