William Gordon Beavers was born February 10, 1932 in Long Beach, California. Bill passed away in his home in Indio, California from complications of cancer on August 11, 2012. He attended Eagle Rock High School from 1947-1950. After graduation in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army where he would teach other soldiers radio communications. In 1955, he attended Woodbury College where he received his Bachelors Degree in Interior Design in June of 1957. Following graduation, he married the love of his life, Joan Beavers on August 17, 1957. They lived in La Crescenta, California and had five children, William Jr., Brian, Deirdre, Suzanne, and Nanette. While living in La Crescenta, he was on the Town Council. He was a proud Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight, Crescenta Valley Chapter. Joan and Bill moved to La Quinta, California in 1999 where he was employed at Home Depot and more recently Ace Hardware in Palm Desert. Bill has been battling cancer since the mid 1970s when he had his first cancer surgery. He is known by his family as the "Energizer Bunny". Through all his stints with cancer, not once did he complain or let his family or friends know he was feeling sick. He was a true inspiration to everyone around him and set an example on how life was supposed to be lived. He was the definition of a "Fighter". A Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in La Quinta at 10:00A.M. Friday August 24, 2012. A private interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Joan Beavers, sister Ruth Anne Schulte, five children, twelve grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. This incredible man will truly be missed. Services under the direction of Forest Lawn Mortuary, Coachella California. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
