Wesley A. Coop, 47, was born on February 3, 1979, in Glendale, California. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend.
Though his life was cut far too short, Wesley lived with purpose and heart, leaving behind a legacy marked by strength, resilience, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family.
Though life took him from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, South Pasadena was always home-the place that shaped his spirit and held many of his most meaningful memories. Family was everything to Wesley. He is survived by his beloved children, Aime and Matthew, and his cherished granddaughter, Rosalie. He is also survived by his loving mother, Rita J. Coop; his sister, Melisa Rico; and his nephew, Michael Lee. Wesley was preceded in death by his father, Bruce W. Coop, and his grandparents, Dena and Stan Coop.
Incredibly intelligent and endlessly curious, Wesley had a true passion for learning. He was constantly reading, exploring new ideas, and expanding his knowledge across countless subjects. He pursued higher education throughout his life, always striving to better himself and to set an example for his children.
Wesley never stopped growing personally or professionally—and was always looking ahead to the next goal, challenge, or opportunity.
Wesley dedicated much of his career to public service, working for the City of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power. He believed deeply in teamwork, perseverance, and helping others, always striving to make a positive difference in his community and in the lives around him.
Growing up, Wesley loved sports and played baseball, soccer, and hockey. Those experiences helped shape the man he became, instilling discipline, resilience, determination, and a strong sense of teamwork that stayed with him throughout his life.
Wesley found joy in life's simple pleasures-cooking for the people he loved, spending time outdoors, fishing, taking day trips, listening to country music, and creating meaningful moments with family and friends. His life was not without challenges. His health struggles began at a young age and continued throughout his life, ultimately leading to a heart transplant on Christmas Eve in 2018. Despite these hardships, Wesley faced each day with courage and determination, never allowing his circumstances to define him. Instead, those experiences deepened his compassion, strengthened his resilience, and taught him to love more deeply and cherish the people who mattered most.
Wesley was a man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He valued family above all else and was a devoted father who made his children the center of his world. Though private by nature, those who knew him understood the depth of his loyalty, generosity, humor, and heart. He was the kind of person who would help anyone in need without hesitation.
Wesley will be remembered for the life he built, the work he was proud of, and most importantly, the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
