Wayne Chang

October 1, 1925 — August 30, 2021

Wayne Chang, was 93, on record he was born on October 1, 1925, in Beijing, China, he passed away August 30, 2021. He resided in San Marino, CA at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
He was actually born in 1927. He was born in the year of the Dragon. He was in school in Tien Jing when Communist invaded the country. He fled with his classmates by foot to join the Nationalist regime. They walked 21 days, til the sole of his shoes had holes and blisters on his feet. They were hungry and tired. One of his school mate stole some food and he was beaten to death and just left on the road. He joined the National regime by adding two years to his age. His new life begun in Taiwan when he was really just a teenager.
Many years later, he met my Mother. He taught High School student how to swim. It was no surprise this beautiful young lady in High School caught his eyes! My Mother was beautiful with fair skin. My Dad was 9 years older than my Mom. She was a young bride as a teenager. They started with pawn shops business. I remember my Dad later owned and drove a taxi and my Mom worked as a broker dealing with Americans selling their used furniture and goods when they left Taiwan. Wayne and his wife immigrated to the US in 1969 with the help of Reverend Mac since my Mother was working with the missionary families in Taiwan.
They started in their restaurant business in 1970's. At one time they owned as many as 4 restaurants. He and my Mom applied for her relatives from Taiwan to immigrate to the US. Anyone who could work had a job in one of their restaurants. Wayne's own siblings came much later to the US. He had 4 sisters and one brother. He was the oldest. His siblings were much older and my parents were near retirement, so they didn't work in the restaurants like the ones from Taiwan. He was most content that all the relatives flourished in this country. Their families and children all adjusted well in US. He was most proud of his restaurant businesses and land acquisitions!
Wayne Chang loved his trophy wife and his family. He loved his 3 children; 2 daughters and one son. At the time of his passing, he had 8 grandchildren, one great-grandson. Now he and my Mom have another grandson and one more on the way! It's a shame that they didn't live long enough to know their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wayne Chang loved going fishing! He loved playing Mahjongg, especially playing the Lotto! He and my Mom loved going to Las Vegas. Sure wished that we could take those trips again!
Wayne lived and long rewarding life indeed! His memory will be cherished by his children. grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Our family wish to thank all of those who expressed their condolences with flower pieces, white envelopes, tribute donations. My Dad loved life! May we all honor him by celebrating life, cherishing each and everyday. Count our Blessings as we love one another! May he rest in peace. Hold onto my Mother's hand while looking down on us from Heaven above.
