Wah Sam Doo, 82, born on December 8, 1932 in China, passed away March 31, 2015. She resided in Los Angeles, California, at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California.
Wah Sam Doo (Ida Doo) was born on December 08, 1932 to Fannie Luke and Chu Sum Doo in Shek-Kay, Jone Shan. She was the youngest of their three children, her siblings being the late Henry and Ruby Wing. Ruby, her brother and mother (who was expectant with my grandmother) sailed to Macau from America and stayed with relatives as a way to retain their Chinese heritage. Because of the Japanese invasion in China, the siblings were left to live out the war time at their parent house in Shek-Kay in China. While they were living in China, her father remarried in America and had 3 more children, Bill, Vivian (Tamura), and Warren Doo.
My grandmother grew up in Shek-Kay and went to school there where she met her future husband Wai-Lin. My understanding is that he was very bright and good looking and would read every day to the family. My great grandfather had already migrated to America to work in the early 1950's. My grandmother had 2 sons, Norman was born in 1949. While she was pregnant with Raymond, her husband Wai-Lin left for America in 1952 to seek out a better life for the family. My expectant grandmother along with my uncle Norman had moved to Macau at the same time where she waited for her husband Wai-Lin to send for the rest of the family.
In 1961, after many tries. The rest of the family were finally admitted to United States. They arrived in San Francisco at my Uncle Fred and Ruby's house, it was the first time that Raymond had seen his father for the very first time. Since Wai-Lin worked in Los Angeles, Ida moved to be with her husband. Uncle Fred and Ruby took on the responsibilities of having to educate Norman and Raymond for a few years in San Francisco where English could be taught and culture could be learned. This is the solid education foundation that Uncle Fred and Aunt Ruby had given to Norman and Raymond for their new start in life.
Wai-Lin and Ida shared a wonderful life together along with both of their sons. Both Norman and Raymond went to college and graduated. Wai-Lin and Ida enjoyed their family and grandkids. They shared much interest with each other and spent much time together until the early passing of Wai-Lin at the early age of 60. Unfortunately, Norman had also passed on at the young age of 55. She nevertheless kept a positive outlook in life. Ida has 2 grand daughters and 1 grandson. Diana, Linda and Cary. The great granddaughters from Diana Doo are Norma and Natania Goueth. Granddaughter Linda Doo has Alyssa and Akira Nakamura. Cary Doo is married to Stephanie living in Sunland. Son Raymond and Noni are married and have recently retired living in Panorama City.
Ida lived a full life before she was sent to the home for her illness. She fought a great fight and will always be remembered her generosity with her family and friends. Her enjoyment was travelling with Norman and the numerous junket trips she took with her friends. The many nights of Mahjong playing that she enjoys and the many performances from her opera singing in front of an audience.
May God bless Grandma and the family
