Vivian Genovese

Beloved entertainer and mother, has taken her last solo and final bow. A true jazz pianist and performer, Vivian had played for thousands of people over the years. Performing with such notables as Anita O'Day, Papa John Creach, June Christy, Big Mama Thorton, Ramsey Lewis and so many others who loved to be near her. Taking her "One Woman Show" from coast to coast, she wore out Route 66, and any other road going her way. Her stage motto "no breaks," "we'll lose the crowd," she would tell her then freshman drummer and son, Ed Genovese. With a left hand bass line and a stomping left foot that would put a hole in the stage, she would follow with a solo that would amaze all who were lucky enough to hear her. With endless energy and humor, Vivian would give her "all" to everyone. Later choosing settling in Palm Springs, she performed in local venues; Melvyn's, the Racquet Club, Mayo's Club, Pasta Italia, the Rainbow Club, and Gloria's. At the drop of one note, she could draw a crowd anywhere. A dedicated friend and piano soloist, the greatest solo of her life was that of a solo Mother, and what a magnificent solo she played. Just ask me, I'd love to tell. Like no other I've ever known, a rare talent with pure charm, endless love, and dedication of spirit. She was simply, "living" defined. The heavens have a new kid in town and she intends to get a gig. I'm so proud to be her son. A Funeral Service in her honor will take place on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cathedral City, Calif. All are welcome. Flowers if you like.
