Virginia Lipscomb, 96, born on January 15, 1916, in Binghamton, New York, passed away September 30, 2012. She resided in San Diego, California at the time of her passing. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the Old North Church at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills location (6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068).

Virginia was born to Sarkis and Haiganoosh Sognalian. She attended public schools in Los Angeles and graduated from Belmont High School in 1934. Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Glenard Paul Lipscomb, who served in the California State Assembly from 1947 - 1953, and as the Congressman from the 24th Congressional District of California from 1953 until his death in 1970.

During her life, Virginia was a homemaker. In addition to raising her two daughters, she spent time during her marriage as a volunteer for the Glenfeliz Elementary School PTA and served as President in 1950-51 before moving to the DC Metropolitan area. While living in Bethesda Maryland, Virginia was actively involved in the Congressional Wives Club and served many years on the Congressional Wives Luncheon Committee and as a Vice President. She was also a Red Cross hospital volunteer and spent many years volunteering at the Florence Crittenden Home in Washington DC.

Being with family and friends were a top priority for Virginia. During her life, she was able to travel thrughout the world and in her later years, she played bridge and enjoyed attending plays and other entertainment with friends.

Survivors include Virginia's two daughters - Diane (John) Watson and Joyce (Eddie) Lindros, both of San Diego; 9 grandchildren Laura (David) Lee, Linda (Charlie) Koones, Skip (Louise) Grasso, Lisa (Jim) Schlager, Stuart (Eve) Watson, Julie (David) Wiebe, Glen (Miriam) Murrell, Jennifer Murrell, and Vickie (Dave) Horton; 18 great grandchildren; and her brother, George Sognalian of Carlsbad.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be sent in Virginia's name to the Casa Foundation, 18655 W. Bernardo Drive, San Diego CA 92127, to continue its high quality and loving care for its Palmer residents. On the check memo line, please write Lipscomb SCR. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Virginia at Casa.
