Virginia Shirley Demars

July 30, 1919 — February 14, 2015

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Virginia (Tooty) DeMars left us peacefully on February 14, 2015. Her family loved her dearly but are comforted knowing her faith sustained her and she is now with the Lord.
Virginia was born on July 30, 1919 in Rapidan, Minn. Her parents were George Reed Macomber and Clara Evelyn Reedstrom. When she was six the family moved to St. Clair, Minn., to a small farm. She lived with her parents, older brother Reed, two sisters , Peggy and Norma, and her grandfather Andrew H. Macomber. She was affectionately known as Tooty, a name her brother gave her .
Tooty met the love of her life, Martin DeMars at a ballroom dance. They had a long courtship as Martin served in the Army in Europe and Africa during World War II. They married in 1945 and were blessed with three wonderful daughters; Jeanine, Francine and Christine. Martin's job as a government meat inspector took them to Arizona and they later settled in Valinda, Calif., where they raised their daughters.
Tooty was an outstanding cook and seamstress. She loved to share her delicious baked goodies and her family and friends were happy recipients of her delectable treats. There were always delicious aromas coming from Tooty's kitchen! She also loved sewing, especially for her girls, and their clothes were a testimonial to her expert craftsmanship.
Her love of travel took her to Hong Kong, Macao, China, Japan, as well as an Alaskan cruise. She truly enjoyed a hot air balloon trip in the desert for her 80th birthday.
Tooty is remembered as a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother and friend and was affectionately called GiGi (short for Great-Grandma) by her great-grandchildren. She was a truly loving, kind, caring and faith-filled lady who did not speak badly of anyone—a great role model for her family.
Tooty left us with a legacy of love, kindness and compassion that will continue to inspire us throughout our lives.
Tooty is survived by daughter Francine Moreno (husband, Martin); Christine Carter (husband, Allen); son in law Phil Hoover; grandchildren Stephanie Moreno, Michelle Tibbetts (husband Travis), Wesley Carter, Megan Carter, Karen Keever (husband_Matt), and Derek Cleveland (wife Danita); and great-grandchildren Alexis Moreno, Adalyn Tibbetts, Reed Tibbetts, Ashlie Sheedy, Sydney Keever, Rylie Keever, and Ryder and Jessie Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin and daughter Jeanine.
Funeral services are on Sunday, February 22 at 12 PM at Forest Lawn Covina Hills.
