Virginia De Guzman Alsaybar ("Nena") peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family, on April 2, 2018. She was 95 years old.

Born in Cagayan, Philippines on September 17, 1922 she was one of eight children of the late Antonio de Guzman & Maria Paggabao de Guzman.

As a young girl, she & her mother joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. At the age of 16 she started working as a church school teacher. Sometime later she attended Philippine Union College where she received her Bachelors & Masters degrees. It was there where she met Bangele B. Alsaybar, her husband for 58 years.

In 1975 Ban & Virginia immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in the home they built in Eagle Rock (Los Angeles), California.

Alongside her husband, she faithfully worked as a teacher, registrar & secretary at West Visayan Academy, Northern Luzon Academy & Philippine Union College. In California, she continued serving the SDA denomination at White Memorial Medical Center in the Medical Records Department until she retired.

During their retirement years, she & her husband were actively involved with their Alumni Association (AWESNA), he as a writer & she as his assistant/proof-reader/records keeper/#1 supporter. Together they produced 4 volumes of "Mirroflect," a compilation of alumni biographies & stories.

Mrs. Alsaybar leaves behind her children: Bangele, Jr. (Nilda Almonte), Vinnie Alsaybar-Jereos (Jed), Elvin (Lennielita Galang) & Norla Darlene Alsaybar-Silao; grandchildren Michael Alsaybar, Jenica Alsaybar, Philip & Nathan Silao; brother, Tony Zman (Wilma), sister, Rachel Queral, sisters-in-law Fely (Jacinto) Ignacio, Helen (Joshua) Mendoza, Jerida (David) Magas, Keydee (Robert) Teh, many nieces & nephews & cousins.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband & mother at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills on April 16, 2018.
