Virginia Acuna, affectionately known as Virgie, peacefully departed this life on July 29, 2025, in Coachella, California, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, devotion, and an indomitable spirit. Born on May 21, 1935, in Superior, Arizona, she was a remarkable woman whose impact on the lives of those around her will be eternally cherished.
A dedicated housekeeper for an impressive forty years, Virginia embodied the values of hard work and commitment. She approached every day with a spirit of independence and honesty that resonated deeply with all who knew her. Her educational journey concluded at the eighth grade, yet her wisdom and insights far exceeded the confines of formal education.
Virginia found profound joy in the simple pleasures of life, cultivating her interests in reading and gardening. These hobbies filled her days with tranquility and creativity, reflecting her vibrant personality. Those fortunate enough to receive her love and nurturing often say that if you did not know how Virgie felt about you, you simply did not know her. Her unwavering dedication to her family was woven into the very fabric of her being; she would do anything for them, a testament to the boundless love she bestowed upon her children and grandson.
She is survived by her beloved son, Joey Valencia Acuña Jr., and her cherished daughter, Monica Valencia Acuña, along with her adored grandson, Joey Galvez-Acuña III. Each of them carries forward the lessons of strength and independence that Virginia imparted, inspired by her legacy.
Virginia's heart was also shaped by the love of those who have preceded her in death. She was the devoted wife of Joe O. Acuña and was preceded by her parents, Esther Yanez Valencia and Miguel Parra Valencia, as well as her siblings – Frances Valenzuela, Miguel Valencia, Jane Perez, Manual Valencia, Julia Valencia, and Santos Valencia. Their spirits, intertwined with hers, form a tapestry of familial bonds that continues to resonate through the generations.
To honor her memory and celebrate a life so well-lived, a visitation will be held on August 18, 2025, at the Forest Lawn - Cathedral City - Ramon Chapel, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, where friends and family may gather to reflect and share in the warmth that Virginia brought to all of our lives. A Catholic Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM.
On August 19th, 2025 at 10:00 AM, a Catholic mass will be held in remembrance at Our Lady of Soledad Church, 52980 Cesar Chavez St. in Coachella, followed by interment at 11:30 AM in The Coachella Valley Cemetery, 82925 Ave 52 in Coachella.
As we remember Virginia Acuna, may we hold tight to the love she shared and the memories we created together. She was a steadfast force in the lives of those she left behind, and her legacy of love, resilience and independence will continue to shine brightly through the hearts that cherished her.
