Victoria Songco Coronel

Victoria Songco Coronel passed away in Burbank, California, on January 16, 2018, aged 91. She is survived by her husband Jose Roque Coronel, her children Cynthia (Hector) Diangkinay, Nanette (Ray) Salva Cruz, Phillip (Myrna) Coronel, Pilar (David) Ivanov, Martin (Juliette) Coronel, Catherine (Jaycee) Lin, and Raymond (Josephine) Coronel, and by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her daughter Maricar Coronel. Born in Manila, Philippines, on November 17, 1926, she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas B.S. in Chemistry. She attended the University of Chicago as a graduate student in chemistry in 1952. On her return to the Philippines, she became a faculty member of the College of Science at the University of Santo Tomas. She was married to Jose Coronel in 1955 and eventually became the mother of eight children. In addition to managing her family's business, she held leadership positions in many civic organizations, including Inner Wheel, Soroptimist International and Daughters of Isabella. She was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for over 25 years. Her spiritual vocation was exemplified by her membership of the Order of Carmelites Discalced Secular (OCDS) for 33 years.

A woman of numerous achievements and of deep religious faith, she will be missed for her warmth, her grace, and her wisdom.
