Victor R. Asuncion

October 18, 1946 — April 20, 2025

Victor R. Asuncion, lovingly known as Abuelo, passed away on April 20, 2025, at Kaiser Ontario. Born on October 18, 1946, in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Victor lived a life rich with love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew him.

A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lina Basilio Asuncion, Victor cherished each moment spent with his family. He is survived by his children, Arvin, Arnold, and Arnel along with their wives Valerie, Maricar, and Harmony. The joy he found in his role as a grandfather was immeasurable. His grandchildren—Jarrod, Ethen, Rayanne, Mandy, Aidan, Lauren, Bella, Lucas, Logan, and Harper—were the light of his life.  Pictures of his sons and his grandchildren adorn the walls of "Grandma and Grandpa's" home.

Victor's educational journey began in the Philippines, where he attended the University of the Philippines before moving on to Mapua Institute of Technology, earning his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. His professional journey started at Firestone Tire in the Philippines and later took bold steps to the United States,  first moving to Hawaii in 1975.. His commitment to providing a better life for his wife and sons was evident as he gained a second Engineering degree focusing on plumbing to compete for jobs against his contemporaries.

Upon moving to California, he contributed significantly to projects at the City of Hope hospital, Cal State LA, and UCLA. He also at one time was self-employed.  Outside of work, he was an avid reader and enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and chess.  He also had a sweet tooth- his favorites being Thai tea boba and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Until his last days, he was a lifelong eater of El Pollo Loco chicken, In-N-Out burgers, and KFC.

Victor was known for his kind and giving nature. Victor was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, embodying a spirit of generosity which many have benefited from. With a warm smile and a joyful laugh, he brightened the lives of many. He cared deeply and always encouraged his loved ones to explore the world, seek new experiences, and be happy.  Never one to raise his voice or let a curse word escape his lips, Victor's gentle demeanor made him a beloved figure amongst those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by several cherished family members, including his father Doroteo Asuncion, mother Ricarda Resurreccion, and cousin Marcelino Cabie, alongside loved ones Atanacio Fabia, Marion Cabie, Veronica Ramos, Antonio and Saturnina Manuel, and grandchild Ron Ramos.  They will all be remembered through stories and memories in our hearts.

Victor R. Asuncion's life was a story of the underdog who overcame his impoverished childhood to provide a fruitful life for himself, his wife, sons, daughter-in-law's and grandchildren.  As we gather to honor his memory, we will do so with sadness that we will no longer see him but with a sense of pride to have had him in our lives.   Funeral services will be held at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills, Church of Our Heritage on May 14 and 15, 2025. May Victor rest in peace knowing that he will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
