On August 30, 1961, in Madera, California, a beautiful soul came into this world. Born to Henry and Marie Conley, Vernon E. Conley brought an abundance of joy and love to their lives from the very beginning. Baptized at The Church of God in Christ in Madera, CA, Vernon's spirit shone brightly from early on.
As he grew up, Vernon's family moved to Pasadena and later to Altadena, CA, where he attended elementary and high school. Summers were spent at Jackie Robinson Park, where Vernon excelled as part of an elite swim team that emerged victorious in every match during the 1980s. His love for football was undeniable, showcasing his talent as a standout Defensive Tackle player both in high school at Pasadena High School and later in collegiate football at Reedley College until an injury altered his path.
In the year 2000, a fateful phone call changed everything when Brenda Conley reached out to speak with Vernon's sister Yvette Tobias. What began as a conversation soon blossomed into a deep connection between Vernon and Brenda, culminating in marriage on May 18, 2008. Their union was marked by unwavering companionship and shared journeys through life's ups and downs.
Vernon devoted years of service to the City of Pasadena before transitioning to a career at Foothill Transit as a bus driver. His commitment to safety extended beyond work as he also worked as a security guard. In pursuit of new horizons, Vernon obtained his CDL and ventured into cross-country truck driving with May Trucking in 2022.
A man deeply rooted in faith, Vernon found solace and purpose through his church community. Becoming a Deacon at Christ Deliverance in Compton under Pastor Jones was a significant milestone followed by active involvement at Transformation Church in Chino. Known for his warm hospitality and dedication to various church ministries, Vernon's faith illuminated his every action.
Affectionately called "Big Vern" by those closest to him, he radiated love and kindness towards everyone he encountered. Whether it was coaching his grandson's T-ball team or lending a helping hand wherever needed, Vernon's generous spirit knew no bounds.
Beyond his earthly journey, Vernon leaves behind cherished memories with his beloved wife Brenda F. Conley; siblings Brian Conley, Yvette Tobias, and Yvonne Tobias; godson Akili McElroy; stepdaughters Shelby Pennington (and family) and Shamilla Pennington (and family); along with two aunts, numerous nephews, nieces, and loved ones whose lives he touched profoundly.
In the embrace of eternity, Vernon is reunited with his parents Henry and Marie Conley along with his brother Leland Conley. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, may we carry forward the light of his spirit – one that forever remains etched in our hearts.
