Vernon Francis Cheney

Vernon Francis Cheney, age 96 and a lifelong resident of Plaistow, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 12, 2013.
He was born on March 10, 1917 in Plaistow, NH the son of Merle and Jeannette D. (Gebow) Cheney. He was raised and educated in Plaistow.

Vern worked most of his life as a machinist for Pope Machinery in Haverhill, MA.

Vern loved gardening and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed cross country skiing and traveling. He loved animals, especially his dogs. He was also a talented woodworker who enjoyed physical exercise and living life to the fullest.

Vern is survived by his wife of 27 years, Hilda N. (Hitchcock) Cheney of Plaistow, NH. His daughters; Fay Jeannette Elizabeth Cheney of Plaistow, NH, Janice Knutsen and her husband, Thomas of Brentwood, NH, Marjorie Hamilton and her husband, Norman of West Virginia and Lolita Zayas and her husband, Frank of Newton, NH. One son and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by his first wife, MarieRose (Gallant) Cheney and his sister, Marian Elizabeth Herbert.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main Street (Rt. 121A) Plaistow, NH 03865. Funeral Services will follow the calling hours at the funeral home at 1:15 PM.
