Vernice Lynette Dagosta

Vernice Lynette Dagosta touched many people's lives in a very special way. Vernice was born on July 6, 1926, in Inwood, Iowa. She was the second born to Edward and Tena Reimers. Her loving sister was Lois Reimers. Vernice and her sister were raised on a farm in Inwood. She went to school and developed a love for the sport of basketball. She graduated from high school, and at an early age, moved to Denver where she worked for a short time with the Telephone Company. She then followed a very dear girlfriend, Esther to California where she started life anew.

Due to her love of dancing, Vernice met Andrew Dagosta while out dancing to Harry James at the Aragon Ballroom in Venice, Calif. They were married in June of 1950, and eventually decided to start their family. Debbie was born in 1953, Karin in 1954, and Diane in 1956. Vernice became a full time mom which consumed most of her time. She would occasionally find time for one of her passions which was bowling; leaving poor Andy to fend for himself with all the girls. She was quite good at the sport.

Andy and Vernice purchased their first home in Glendale. Vernice was an ambitious mother who became interested in having her girls involved in the sport of swimming; devoting endless hours to driving the girls to workouts daily, and weekend swim meets.

As time passed, and the girls grew older, Vernice decided to go back to work. She worked for a book publishing company called, "Golden West Books". Golden West published books on trains, and Vernice was the chief editor, among various other jobs her boss gave to her. She worked for many years and retired in her late 60's.

By this time her girls were through college, and on their way to creating successful lives for themselves. It was in 1985 that Andy and Vernice decided to sell their home and move to a beautiful location in the hills of Glendale. They both loved that home so much, and it was a peaceful tranquil space for them to enjoy the rest of their years. Vernice soon became a grandmother. She had 4 grandchildren: Matthew, Trevor, Jessica, and Troy. Many wonderful family events were spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house, including Diane and Steve's wedding. During her retirement years, Vernice became involved in the hobby of collecting Barbies. She enjoyed her hobby, and had close to 2,000 dolls. Vernice also became a Great Grandmother three years ago. She was blessed with Bronson Willis, who fondly called her "Big Gimmie!"

Difficult times came in her later years where she had several falls. She was a strong woman, and pulled through many difficult operations. She lost her beloved husband in May of 2009, and eventually lived in an assisted living for the last year and a half of her life, with frequent visits from family and friends. Vernice peacefully passed away in her sleep on January 29, 2013.

Since her passing, each day brings memories of the joy, humor, support, and struggles that each family encounters. Each memory is a treasure which is stored and kept. We girls will especially remember the shopping trips, Christmas mornings, family vacations to the dude ranch with the Miller family, birthday parties, family dinners, etc. Vernice Dagosta was a strong, loyal, caring sister, mother, and wife; who supported her husband in all he loved, and who helped her three daughters to become successful, upstanding women. We are very blessed to have had such a wonderful upbringing by a mother who put her family first. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California. Her service will be presided over by Father Paul Hruby.
