Verna Jean Myers

October 24, 1926 — May 21, 2017

Verna "Jean" Myers born to Alfred & Myrtle Arronson in Portland, Oregon on October 24, 1926, was upon first impression shy and reserved. Those who truly had the opportunity to know her discovered a woman with a tender heart and a wry sense of humor. She was honest and loyal, expecting the same from others. And when she enjoyed your company, her smile could light up a room!

At an early age Jean showed a strong aptitude for art, which would remain a hobby for many years. Not only did she enjoy creating sketches and other visual art projects, her interests evolved to gardening, fashion, collecting antique furniture, movies and music. Even in her final years, you would find her singing every word to her favorite songs with gusto.

During high school she was courted by "the boy next door", and when he returned from his tour of duty with the US Army, she became Mrs. Charles Myers. She would go on to accompany him from Portland to Spokane, Seattle and ultimately Los Angeles, taking pride in making homes at each stop.

While in Spokane, she became devoted mom to Cathy and immersed herself in exposing her daughter to various opportunities, spending many years as chauffer and supporter at recitals and school events.

Jean demonstrated a lifelong passion for animals, raising everything from litters of kittens, dogs of all ages, rabbits and even a desert tortoise. She would feed the neighborhood squirrels, bring bread to the seagulls and take in every stray in need.

In later years, Jean directed her energy to curating an unmatched collection of high-end dolls and bears.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charles, and survived by daughter Cathy and son-in law Webb Edwards, Granddaughter Shawn Edwards, as well as her beloved extended family.

Jean's favorite song was "I'll Be Seeing You" and we all look forward to seeing Jean in heaven, singing and tending to God's furry creatures.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you honor Jean with a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite cause benefitting animals.
