On Friday, March 08, 2019 Verna Culp, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away at the wonderful age of 99.
Verna or Nana as everyone called her was born on May 12, 1919 in Memphis, Tennessee to James and Marie Blunt. In 1946 Verna married the love of her life Elven Culp. Verna and Elven or Papa as we used to call him, raised a daughter and played major roles in helping raise their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the 1970's Verna obtained her Real Estate License and sold real estate in the greater Los Angeles area where she became a successful Realtor through-out the 1970's and 80's, retiring from real estate in the early 90's. She was also a community activist in the City of Lynwood for nearly 30 years and served on several committees and commissions and was well known in her community as a stern, compassionate, beautiful woman with high values and integrity.
Verna was a loving and nurturing person that enjoyed traveling and spending time with all her grandchildren. She had an adventurous heart and always liked to try new things. She use to say; "You'll never know until you try". She also had a passion for southern style cooking and loved to eat good food from many other cultural cuisines. If she said; 'I put my foot in it", it meant that the food she just made was GREAT! Nana not only took great pleasure in helping her family members, but she also enjoyed helping those in need. She became a foster parent to numerous foster children she helped raise over the years from infants to almost adult teens.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband Elven Culp. She is survived by her daughter Joann, grandchildren Richard and Ronald, great-grandchildren Rikki, Ronald Jr., Richard Jr., Jasmin, Jada, and Ryan, and great-great grandchild Raylene. A rarity to have witness a healthy and productive beautiful life of five generations living that will remember her as a devoted Christian servant of the Lord and our family Matriarch.
Nana you will be truly missed! We love you with all our hearts! We will rejoice when we shall see you again in Heaven!
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 6th at 2:00pm in the Church of our Father at Forest Lawn. 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress CA. 90630
