Lawrence, MA: Venera “Vera” Sciacca, 96, of Lawrence, formerly of Yonkers, NY died at the Mary Immaculate Health/Care Center, Lawrence, MA on Monday, February 4, 2013.
Born and educated in New York City, NY, the daughter of Salvatore and Anna (Miccolis) Sciacca, she moved to Italy in 1927 to study piano and graduated from the Conservatory of Naples with high honors. Upon her return to the United States in 1936, Ms. Sciacca began a career as a piano teacher and later worked as head cashier at Kleins Department Store until her retirement in 1989.
Ms. Sciacca was very passionate about classical music, and attended many concerts. She meticulously saved program booklets, newspaper clippings & memorabilia about her favorite artists. In her family circle she was known as a “force to be reckoned with” & voiced her beliefs with intensity. She also loved to travel worldwide, visiting China, the USSR, Tanzania, the Middle East, & East & West Europe. She also visited with friends in Naples & Rome.
A resident of Yonkers, NY for 47 years before moving to the Merrimack Valley area in 2009, she was a former member of St. Eugene Parish of Yonkers. Ms. Sciacca was predeceased by her former husband, Louis A. Bufano and her brother, Angelo Sciacca. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Louis A., Jr. and Elizabeth Bufano of Newton, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda J. and James Considine of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A prayer service and procession will begin on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 9 AM from Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main Street Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow, NH. Burial will take place at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY on Tuesday, February 19, 2013.
