Dr. Vasile Ancu-Gheorghiu was born on July 4, 1938 in Alexandria, Romania to Florian Ancu
and Ioana Craciun. In Romania, he graduated successfully from veterinary school, married the
love of his life, Haiganush (Chibarian), and became a devoted father to Daniela and Edward.
Vasile and his family emigrated to the United States in 1977, where after his struggle to learn
English and pass his veterinary licensure, he and Haiganush became the proud owners of Big
Tujunga Veterinary Hospital. Through only hard work and perseverance, together they provided
all that was necessary for their family and made sure their children were also on their way to
becoming successful individuals. Vasile was a faithful, spiritual, caring, loving, and extremely
family-oriented man. He was a loyal friend, was protective of those closest to him, and would
do anything for anyone if he could. Vasile also was a bit of a Renaissance man. He knew
something about absolutely everything. He was not only an amazing and much respected
doctor, but when Vasile was around, there was no need for a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or
anyone else. He took care of everything. And if he didn't know how to do it, he learned. He
was an avid reader and had an immense hunger for knowledge. He was particularly interested
in the after-life and of course had his theories about it. Vasile also wrote two books-- an
autobiography and one about the after-life. After retiring from a long and successful career, he
and Haiganush travelled the world together and enjoyed the fruits of their labor. He loved taking
their boat on the lake to go fishing, loved great wine, great food, and living his life his way.
Vasile passed away peacefully at his home in Glendale, California on the morning of July 25,
2019, where Haiganush, his wife of 52 years, took care of him until his last moments. Vasile is
also survived by his children, Daniela and Edward, and his five grandchildren, whom he
absolutely adored-- Elise, Evan, Alexander, Emma, and Andrew.
