Valrita E. Peterson, Best known as 'Mother' Or 'Val', was born on October 26th, 1924 in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 07, 2023 at the age of 98 in Pomona, CA.
Valrita moved to Southern California in the early 1940s with her then-husband, Jill Steve Peterson, and their two sons, Alfred Peterson and Alvin Peterson. After the passing of her husband, she remained a devoted mother and continued to provide home for her sons and others.
Valrita lived a long full life as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great grandmother. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, not being shy and witty demeanor, with a love for classic westerns, cooking, and reading. Valrita found comfort and solace in the words of Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
Valrita was preceded in death by her husband Jill Steve Peterson and her son Alvin Peterson, who passed away in June of 1998. She is survived by her son Alfred Peterson, daughter-in-law Jessie Peterson, grandchildren Denise Deputy, Shelia Peterson, Freddie Peterson, Brandie Peterson, great-grandchildren; Gil Brown, LaKisha Deputy-Frazier, Sharella Ruffin, Brandon Vernal Morris, and great-great grandchildren Tiega Frazier, Alvin Petey Frazier, Sariah Frazier and Noble Frazier, along with a host of other family and friends.
Valrita will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit and legacy will live on through the memories she shared with those closest to her. A private memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and honor her memory.
Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA.
