Uldarico Buenavista Tijamo

Uldarico Buenavista Tijamo passed away peacefully on February 12, 2023. Fondly called Eckong or Dick, he was born in Cadiz, Negros Occidental on July 13, 1924 to Filomeno and Teofista Tijamo, the sixth of nine children. He grew up in Escalante, Negros Occidental where, even at school age, he assisted his father in making a living by ocean fishing and working in sugar cane plantations.

Uldarico served as a guerilla fighter in the Philippines during World War II. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 where he served for three years. Uldarico then worked as a telephone technician for almost twenty years with the Bureau of Telecommunications in Malacanang Palace, Philippines. In the United States, he worked as a carpenter, construction worker, and building maintenance worker.

Uldarico was preceded in his death by his daughter, Ma Teresa (Leonardo). He is survived by his wife, Genoveva; by his children Milet (Jun), Erich (Jing), Edith (John), Allan (Dave); grandchildren Tintin, Ayeen, PJ, Anne (Roman), Kirsten, Karlo (Josephine), Kenneth, Kevin, Kurt, Kinzel, Sean, Kayla, Otto, Fox, and Gian; and great-grandchildren Josh, Gelo, Ella, Ethan, Cameron, Kaleb, and Brayden.

Uldarico will be remembered by his loved ones for his unwavering support for his family, his life of service to the Philippines and the United States of America, and to his faith in God. He lived his whole life with a "can do" attitude as his guiding principle and he dealt with all of life's difficulties with stoic resolve. He was constantly doing, creating, improving --- his children would lovingly chide that "with hammer and nails, Papa can fix anything."

Viewing is scheduled on Sunday, February 26 in Room B, Mortuary Building, Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California 90068 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. He will be buried on Monday, February 27 at Riverside National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
