Troy Bennett

January 23, 1978 — September 18, 2025

In loving memory of Troy Alexander Bennett, 47, of Oakland, CA, passed away unexpectedly on 9/18/2025. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Troy was born on January 23,1978 in Chicago, IL to James and Erma Bennett.

After graduating from Claremont High School, Troy opted to go to UC Berkeley where he received his Bachelors degree in Architecture.

Troy lived a life full of music, thoughtfulness and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was known for his quiet and introspective presence. Even though he described himself as a “nerd” he was also known for his infectious laughter, his great sense of humor and his unwavering generosity. He was recruited at 12 years of age to take the SAT’s, which he did. The reason he was asked to do this is because they were doing a study of how accomplished 12 year olds compared to high school students taking the same test. He did very well, and was very proud of this-but he never was one to toot his own horn. In fact I found the results of those SAT’s on his desk and it was surprisingly similar to how he scored as a 18 year old senior! He also had a great memory from an early age. In the 3rd grade he narrated ‘The Wizard of Oz’ from memory. No one could believe how he did that at such a young age. He was also a sports fan- almost fanatical with his love of the Chicago Bears and Bulls. Always wearing apparel with the Chicago Bears logo, and a vocal fan always! He also played sports and did very well. He played soccer for 3 years and basketball for his varsity basketball team at Claremont High School.

He pursued a career in technology(even though his degree was in architecture), with passion, working at SS&C Technologies for 25 years. Beyond work, Troy was deeply involved in supporting his favorite sports teams and music. He especially loved music-fun fact, he wanted to be a DJ when younger and was also an accomplished violinist! He also enjoyed spending time with family and close friends.

Family was at the heart of Troys life. He is survived by his loving mother Erma, sisters: Nicole, and Erica, brother Christopher and niece Madison Bennett. He was preceded in death by his father-James Bennett. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the country.

Although Troy’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May Troy’s memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
