Todd Alan Phinney was born April 30, 1968 in Harbor City, CA to Craig and Theresa Phinney. His early interest in soccer soon turned to a passion for Goal Keeping...Due to his fearlessness and a dislike for running. He played soccer at Whitney High School in Cerritos, CA and later attended Chapman University in Orange, CA and Cerritos Junior College in Cerritos, CA. At 13, Todd was ruined for all other women when he met his wife Julie Ann McWain; and after years of laughs and fun, they were married on June 19, 1993. The Phinney Family was blessed with the arrival of two beautiful daughters in future years. Katelyn Michelle Phinney, born November 15, 1998, and Sarah Jessica Phinney, born October 29, 1999.
Mr. Phinney was greatly admired in his field of mortgage banking. Many companies were blessed to have Todd as a part of their team. A true professional and expert at all he did, Todd's true gift was People. He was the CMOLAF....Chief Moral Officer of Laughter and Fun. Todd took a group of people in the workplace, made them a family, and then made it a home away from home for all that were fortunate to fall under his gaze. Many of these relationships remain strong today, many have stopped by this past week to provide the family support and love. A true sign of his far reaching impact on so many lives.
Todd was an avid fan of Teams...The Dodgers, Kings, Raiders, and West Ham United have heard Todd screaming his support, even though he was actually yelling at the TV he was closest to. He shared his love of sports in the form of debate, criticism, debauchery and good old fashioned fun with all that could hear his voice...Sorry La Habra! His tour around his backyard in 2012, the year the Kings won their first Stanley Cup is legendary.
Todd is a self taught guitarist and anyone that has seen him play guitar would be amazed to know that was all Todd, the Internet and a guitar. His band, Black Mustard, recently played to a packed house at the Phinney compound, to the delight of his neighbors. Todd also could quote a line or lines from any movie made...From Oceans 11 through 55...Or actually 13 to Tombstone, Reservoir Dogs, and so many others. Pick a topic and Todd and others had the movie line to match. Hopefully...Collectively as a group we can take up the challenge and find one of a million lines to come.
Most of all Todd was a dedicated Father, Husband, Son and Friend. Todd would tell you that he hated all people equally to hide the fact that he was touched by so many. Todd's wife Julie and he met at 13, and through their love they brought into this world for all to share...Katelyn and Sarah. The Phinney Compound is known by many, and if you stopped by on any given night...the stories people have heard, and those that will be retold in Memory of Todd Phinney are all the evidence one needs to understand the depths of Todd's intelligence, understanding and love!
Todd Phinney passed away August 18, 2015. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter. A legacy of Family and the lives he touched. If the true measure of a person's impact on the world is the caliber of people that call him a friend, then Todd's impact is immeasurable. It is left to be seen the true extent of his impact on all our lives, but the peace that is provided knowing that his footprint of love, family, and fun is just beginning, is something we will always cherish.
