Thomas (Tom) John Thompson, age 83 of Palm Springs, CA was born November 20,1942 in Buffalo, NY to John and Theresa (LaPlante) Thompson. He married Nancy Lindelow in 1965 with whom he had a cherished daughter Traci Lynn Thompson in 1968. They were divorced in 1973. Despite not having finished high school, Tom went on to earn his GED, a diploma in Business from Bryant and Stratton College, A BA degree in Business from Rosary Hill (Daemon) College and an MS degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from SUNY@ Buffalo. He had a long and distinguished career serving clients with addiction and mental health issues. Many are the people that he supported on their way to recovery. In 1981, Tom met his future husband, Paul Green, in Buffalo, NY. After 27 years together, they were married in San Diego, CA on August 8, 2008. They went on to have a life of adventure living in Safety Harbor, FL; Edina, MN and finally Palm Springs, CA. Despite each having demanding careers, their life together was filled with family, friends, travel, art, music, theater and love. A life long tennis player, Tom was sidelined by a complicated Parkinson's disease diagnosis. His physical abilities declined but his indominable spirit and love for life never waned. Paul served as his caregiver for several years and was by his side until peaceful passing at home on May 20, 2026. Tom was predeceased by his parents, brother in law Robert Reed, sister in law Bonnie Thompson and niece Collette Pirinelli. Besides his husband and daughter, Tom is survived by his sister Linda Reed, brother Timothy Thompson, and nieces Sherri Swiatek (Jeff) and Deborah Reed (Steve Ratchuk). Tom is to be cremated and will be inurned in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cathedral City, CA. Arrangements by Forest Lawn. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future. Donations in Tom's name to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter are greatly appreciated.
