Hon. Thomas F. Nuss
September 1932 - January 14, 2025
Retired Judge Thomas Francis Nuss, 92, passed away January 14, 2025, after a long illness. He leaves behind a broad, enduring, and distinguished legacy.
Tom received his B.A. degree from The College of the Holy Cross in 1954, and his LLD from Fordham University School of Law in 1960. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953. After moving to California, Tom and his law partner founded Moran & Nuss in 1963. In 1975 he was appointed to the bench of the Los Angeles Superior Courts, retired from the bench in 1995, and continued his career as an arbitrator and mediator for JAMS and IVAMS.
Tom was well known to his friends and associates for his involvement in community. He was a Councilman and Mayor of San Dimas, Ca.; involved in Little League and Pop Warner football; former President of Southern California Football Officials Association, Citrus Division; Director and former Chairman of the Board of Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center; Director of the Los Angeles County Fair Association, McKinley Children's Center and YMCA; founding member, Director and Past President of the San Dimas Festival of Western Arts.
Tom leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Susan, seven children and two stepchildren: Marie Crowther, John Nuss, Ann Beal, Catherine Ford, Carolyn Ashley, Mary (Katie) Nuss, Patrick Merkel, Jennifer Hodge, and Robert Wilson; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Finnegan and Edna Leyden.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Meeting House at Hillcrest, 2705 Mountain View Dr., La Verne, CA, beginning at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to send a donation to Pomona Valley Community Hospital Medical Center (www.pvhmc.org) or Hillcrest Benevolent Funds (LivingAtHillcrest.org).
