---------------
Thomas Edward Blackman passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025 at the age of 93. Born to George and Iris Blackman on June 13, 1932, in Pueblo, CO, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a beloved member of the Seal Beach, California community.
Tom is remembered for a life filled with faith, family, friendship and generous heart that touched everyone. He is remembered for his positive perspective on life and love of his wife, Barbara, and children William “Bill” Blackman, Sheldon Blackman, Antoinette “Toni” Julian and Sallie Clark. A farm boy from Colorado and a veteran, who served both in the U.S. Navy Sea Bee’s and as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, Tom received his B.S. and Masters’ degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO (then Colorado State College of Education) and worked on the family farm with his brother David before setting out for California to teach in the Long Beach Unified School District. His teaching career spanned 41 years at local and college levels. Among his passion for life was a dedication to public service as a councilman and mayor of Seal Beach. Tom also embodied his love of Christ through his support of the First United Methodist Church in Seal Beach. Tom was proud of his grandchildren Haden, Matthew, Nicole and Colton, and Greg and his wife Shirley and Steven by marriage and great grandchildren Paige, Caitlyn, Zoe, Darcy, Gabrielle, Charlotte and Miles. During their 57-year marriage, Tom and Barbara traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad and Barbara would attest to him being an easy traveler, especially when there was a golf course nearby. Tom will be remembered as a lifelong teacher and mentor, was patient and kind to all he met, had an excellent sense of humor and his outlook on life was evident in frequently stating it was important to maintain “a positive circle”.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Interval House at intervalhouse.org in Thomas Blackman’s name. Graveside service will be held for family and close friends by invitation. Memorial services will be held in Seal Beach, California, date yet to be determined.
