Thelma C. Blas

It is with great sadness that the family of Thelma Coble Blas announces her passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the age of 93 years old.



Thelma was born on October 13, 1925 in Laoag City, located in the Ilocos Norte region of the Philippines, where she lived most of her life. She was the eldest of six siblings, born to an American father and a Filipino mother.



She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Santo Tomas located in Manila, one of the oldest existing universities in Asia. She went on to obtain her Master's in Education at Northern Christian College in Laoag City. She became a college professor and taught Filipino language, literature, history, and the life, works, and writings of Jose Rizal at Mariano Marcos State University located in the Ilocos Norte region.



Thelma loved good food and fashion. She also loved to watch classic movies and to read books, mostly autobiographies about the Kennedys, and poetry. From her readings and movies, she loved to use quotes in her daily life and in greeting cards. She was a very prayerful woman, as well as thoughtful and generous, always remembering birthdays and donating to her charities.



Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ruth, Beverly, and Ruby. Thelma will also be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Charmagne, Chuck, Jared (wife, Melissa & son, Joey), Athena, Lauren, Sabrina, and Brandon; also by her great-grandchild, Camille, and grandson-in-law, Christopher.



Visitation and prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm, Monday, March 25, 2019 at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Church of Our Fathers, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630. A Funeral Service in memory of Thelma will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 18708 Clarkdale Avenue, Artesia, CA 90701. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn - Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630.
