Laguna Beach

A devoted husband and beloved father, Terrence Taylor was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Philip and Louise Taylor. He grew up in Toluca Terrace, attending North Hollywood High School until 1945, after which he served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He attended college at University of Southern California, where he graduated in 1951. After receiving his medical degree from USC in 1955, and completing his residency at the Los Angeles VA Hospital, he began a long and distinguished career in psychiatry, receiving his PhD in Psychoanalysis from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute in 1971. Terry maintained a private practice of psychotherapy in Sherman Oaks from 1959 to 1991, at the same time teaching as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at USC School of Medicine and Instructor at the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, where he also served in various administrative positions. He was also a co-founder and member of the board of directors at Woodview Hospital. In the final years of his long career, he served as staff psychiatrist at the Orange County Mental Health Clinic in Mission Viejo.

Terrence passed away peacefully at his home in Laguna Beach on March 7, and was buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills beside Joan, his wife of fifty-four years, and the love of his life. He is survived by his brother Patrick (Eivor) Taylor, his two loving children, Sean Taylor and Tammy (Glen) Wexler, his grandchildren Erin Taylor, Paige Taylor, Adam Taylor, Jenna Wexler and Ian Wexler, and his great-grandchildren Zack Botnik, Ayla Taylor, and Ulysses Taylor.
