Teresa Sanchez, 89, born on June 14, 1936, in San Bernardino, CA, United States, passed away July 03, 2025. She resided in Covina, CA at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA.
Born on June 14 - a true Flag Day baby Teresa "Terri" Saberon Sanchez was a proud and patriotic woman who brought light, love and resilience into every life she touched. Terri was born in San Bernardino, California, to Emily and Victor Saberon, the eldest of 9 siblings. She grew up in San Dimas, California and was a proud graduate of Bonita High School, where her warmth and determination began to shine. On September 7, 1957, she married John Salvador Sanchez. Together, they built a beautiful life in Covina, California, raising six children: Debra Marie, Johnny Salvador, Gabriel Andrew, Lori Ann, Aaron Mark, and Daryl Adrian — all of whom would go on to graduate from Northview High School.
After suffering a stroke in 1996 that paralyzed her right side, Terri’s spirit never wavered. She continued to live fully — getting up each day, dressing herself, tying her shoes with one hand, and preparing light meals. Despite her limited mobility, she found joy in the outdoors and could often be found gardening in her own backyard or helping tend plants at her children’s homes. She loved flowers — receiving them, smelling them, and simply being around them. She had a deep affection for butterflies and angels, and often said she would come back as a butterfly one day. Her connection to nature was just one more expression of her love, beauty, and peaceful spirit.
For the past 25 years, Terri lived with her daughter Lori, who lovingly assisted her with daily tasks that became more difficult over time. Yet Terri remained fiercely independent, strong-willed, and stubborn in the most admirable way — never letting her physical limitations define her. Her determination never faded, even in the face of hardship.
Terri cherished weekend outings, time in the backyard at her daughter and son-in-law Debra and Marcos' house — which she considered her second home — while her great-grandchildren played nearby, and fun-filled casino trips with her siblings and children. She was always ready for the nickel slot machines, a tasty buffet, and a good laugh.
She gave selflessly to those she loved, whether it was a few dollars, a home-cooked meal, or simply a warm, welcoming presence. Growing up during the Great Depression, Terri never took anything for granted and lived her life with gratitude and generosity. She made everyone feel special — a true matriarch whose heart and home were always open.
Terri was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors — all of whom felt the warmth of her spirit and the depth of her love. Her legacy is one of strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion. She wore her heart on her sleeve and taught us all how to give deeply and love freely.
Though her presence will be missed every single day, we take comfort in knowing she is now in heaven — reunited with her beloved mother and grandmother — watching over all of us, whole and free, perhaps even fluttering by as a butterfly, just as she always said she would.
On behalf of Terri’s family, thank you for the incredible outpouring of love, sympathy, and support. Our hearts are broken but full of gratitude for having been loved by such a remarkable woman.
Terri requested a celebration of life filled with light and warmth. Please help us honor her wishes by wearing light colors to the services in lieu of black.
