Sylvia Colunga, 52, went to be with the Lord August 3, 2014, with her family by her side, in Ontario, California. She was born on February 3, 1962, in Los Angeles, California. Sylvia was raised by her parents Jesse and Maria Guevara, and was the youngest between her three siblings. She had one sister, Bertha, and two brothers, Manny and Tony.
When Sylvia was in Jr. High School, her family moved to La Puente, California, where she continued to be raised. Sylvia graduated from Basset High School in 1980. Later that year she met her spouse, Danny Colunga, at a small Christian church. In 1984, she began her career with Southern California Edison, realizing this was her mission field.
Sylvia and Danny dated for over four years and in November of 1984, Danny proposed. Sylvia would get married on October 12, 1985. Once married, Sylvia and Danny moved to Ontario, California. In 1986, Sylvia switched churches from her La Puente church to Calvary Chapel Chino Valley, which was originally based in an elementary school. There she served in the Nursery, and enjoyed every minute. Calvary Chapel Chino Valley became Sylvia's second home.
Sylvia loved to paint and build ceramics village houses, which were used for holiday decorations. Sylvia played on a co-ed softball team with Danny as a couple. She always loved to serve and make others happy with the talents she had. Sylvia would always cook meals for people in need. She would often ask Danny to invite his single-men friends from church to enjoy a home cooked meal. One of Sylvia's hobbies consisted of collecting Betty Boop.
After five years of marriage, on July 13, 1990, Sylvia had her first child, Eric. In 1995, Sylvia had her second son, Tyler. Sylvia loved her children, always giving her full support to them. She would always love to help out the sports teams the boys played on; whether that meant being a team mom or serving their teams food. Sylvia always found a way to make her boys happy and feel loved. Whenever it was their birthdays, she loved to celebrate by giving them birthday parties.
No words can describe how amazing Sylvia was and is to us. Her strength is admirable, her love is flawless, and the kind-heart she had is motivational. She was the best spouse, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Sylvia's faith in the Lord takes her to where everybody wants to be.
