Sylvia Beck Cohn

November 23, 1937 — January 2, 2021

Sylvia Beck Cohn, born November 23, 1937 in La Paz, Bolivia, passed away from Covid-19 on January 2, 2021 in Prescott, AZ, at the age of 83.
Sylvia lived a life of service. She was a registered nurse for 50 years, she practiced first in Texas and then in various hospitals in southern California, finally retiring from Pomona Valley Community Hospital. The Labor and Delivery department was her love and she helped to deliver hundreds if not thousands of babies in her lifetime.
She was the daughter of Methodist Missionaries to Bolivia, Dr. Frank S. & Bessie Dunn Beck. When she was 17 years old, the family moved back to the U.S. where she finished her schooling and attended nursing school in Tyler, TX. This is where she met the love of her life, Roy Neal Cohn, on a blind date. They married on July 10, 1959. They spent 50 wonderful years together until he was called back home on March 22, 2010. Together they had 3 children, Frank Charles (Chuck), Theresa Jo (Terri) Miner, and Kimberly Rae (Kim) Steers. They and their spouses, Elizabeth, James and Guy (respectfully) gave their parents 9 wonderful grandchildren: 6 boys & 3 girls: Kevin, Brian, Daniel Cohn, Rachel (Gibney), Grant, Emily, Jared Miner, Spencer, Julie Steers (Tillett) and subsequently, 4 great grandchildren: 3 boys & 1 girl: Cooper & Walker Cohn, Marlena (Marnie) Gibney and Parker Steers.
Sylvia was a long-time and devoted member of the Methodist Church of Upland and spent many hours volunteering to their "Feed the Homeless" program, along with many other groups of the Church.
In December 2020, Sylvia, Kim and little 5 year old Parker, traveled to Prescott, AZ to visit Terri and to meet her great granddaughter for the first time. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Sylvia became ill as soon as she arrived and was hospitalized where she fought valiantly to beat the virus, however God decided it was time to call her to go back home.
Kim became ill with the virus just days after Sylvia and was also hospitalized. Kim also fought hard, but lost the battle and was taken home on January 12, 2021.
Both Sylvia and Kim are in heaven now with their husbands and the loves of their lives,
Roy Neal (March 22, 2010) & Guy (March 2, 2015).
Due to the dangers and restrictions of Covid-19, Sylvia will have a private prayer service on Friday February 12, 2021 at 6:00pm. Followed by a private graveside service on Saturday February 13, 2021 at 12:00 noon. Both services will be held at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills, CA.
A public Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Yavapai Regional Medical Center and Kelly Fitzpatrick of Ruffner-Wakelin Funeral Home, both in Prescott, AZ for their wonderful care of Sylvia and Kim, and will be forever grateful to them.
