Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Sunny Thora Drew passed away in her home on July 26, 2021 with her husband, oldest daughter and oldest granddaughter by her side. Sunny was born April 6, 1948 in San Francisco, CA to Cy and Maxine Hershman. She was their youngest child. She grew up in the Bay Area. Sunny was a Navy Wave and met her beloved husband, John Drew, while "trolling" for sailors. After eight dates, he got tired of paying toll bridge fees and proposed. They married on May 11, 1968 and raised three children together. During the course of their marriage, they lived in various cities throughout California: Vallejo, San Diego, Pomona (where they lived for 12-13 years) and Rancho Cucamonga (for the past 33-34 years). Sunny was a hard worker and worked outside the home in various positions including the Progress Bulletin as a route supervisor and many years at General Dynamics-Pomona as a secretary. Sunny was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she held her faith dear to her heart. She was a kind-hearted, loving person who always looked for the good in others and was willing to serve when she was able. She had a tremendous love for her family and friends. Sunny had a life-long battle with kidney problems and other health issues and had been on dialysis for the last 15 years. She was courageous and fought until the end to hold on for her family. Sunny is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Phillip. Sunny is survived by her husband John; her children Kathryn (Clark) Raile, Richard (Jaimee) Drew, Sharla (Jason) Hodges; grandchildren Katelyn and Laura Raile, Baxter and Chelsea Drew, Kingston and Wyatt Oldendorff, Silas Hodges; best friend Sharon Frank; and a handful of nieces and nephews and their families. A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at the LDS church 9075 Baseline Road, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. Forest Lawn Covina. While flowers are appreciated, Sunny has asked that in lieu of them donations may be made in her honor to the National Kidney Foundation.
