Sung Soo Jung

Dr. Sung Soo Jung (76), born in North Korea, passed away in July, 2022 in Bakersfield, CA. He is survived by his wife, Jae, his two children, Dorothy and Christina, and his grandchildren. A graduate of the Yonsei University medical program, he immigrated to America in the early 70's and established his pediatric practice in Bakersfield, California, which was ably managed by his wife. For over 30 years he was a beloved pediatrician to generations of patients and a founding member of the Bakersfield Pediatric Center. A devout Christian, he was a long-time elder of the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield, and was instrumental in helping plant its own chapel and fellowship hall. A life-long lover of choral music (as well as the great tenors), he directed the church choir, and took great joy in arranging the annual Christmas choral concert for over 20 years. Although an avid golfer in his 30s (with a 2 handicap), he learned to play tennis so he could spend time with his girls. He was gratified to see his girls graduate from Columbia and Yale and go on to earn higher degrees in the fields of law and medicine, but was especially pleased when his girls married and started families of their own. He was considered by his friends to be a humble, generous and kind man, unwavering in his faith in the Lord, and a beloved friend. He will be missed. Memorial Services will be held on August 2, 2022 at 2:30pm (PDT) at the Old North Church located at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills) in Los Angeles, CA. Burial service to immediately follow.
