Sun Choi

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, SunOk Choi, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Born on October 06, 1946, in Seoul, South Korea, our mother had a life filled with love, dedication, and resilience. She resided in Los Angeles, CA at the time of her passing but was a cherished resident of Anderson, SC, for over 40 years.

Her upbringing was shaped by the Korean War, which claimed the life of her father.  She was lovingly raised by her grandparents.  Despite the challenges, she graduated with a business degree and she worked at the Korean Stock Exchange, supporting her brother through college. She married WanSoo Choi in 1973, welcomed their daughter the following year.  

In 1975, our family immigrated to the United States to assist our father's sister with their import/export business of wigs. Shortly after, our family built a beauty supply business of over 14 stores in the southeast, and our parents managed the stores in South Carolina. In 1979, they had a son and settled into their hometown of Anderson, SC.

SunOk will always be remembered by her love of life, her dedication to her business, and most importantly, her unwavering love for her family.  She was the heart and soul of her family and a shining light to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.  

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, WanSoo Choi; children, Young-Ah Kim and BJ Choi; son-in-law, Richard Kim, daughter-in-law, Jenna Choi, grandchildren, Eliana Kim (14) and Isaac Kim (13); and her brother, NamSik Oh.  She is preceded in death by her father AeTaek Oh and her mother, SungSook Choi.

A graveside service with be held at noon on Saturday, August 30th at Forest Lawn Memorial, 1712 S Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205.
