Suhahn Aanya Lee

September 20, 2010 — July 28, 2013

Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends…The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation. (Found in "About Us" from Papyrus, a greeting card company)

God took Suhahn Aanya Lee by her hand and led her to her heavenly home on July 24, 2013. Suhahn briefly came back and stayed three more days in our care, allowing all her loved ones to kiss her, hug her, say goodbye to her. In the morning of July 28, 2013 Suhahn's parents Taehohn Lee and Bo Kim sent the last drop of Suhahn's spirit back to heaven. Suhahn lived 1037 days on earth and on every single day, she brought happiness to those near her.

Fiercely independent, funny, spunky, and creative Suhahn left an imprint of laughter in every heart that has encountered her spirit. She awakened in us a child-like humor that turns any mundane thing to a brilliant tool to make a little girl laugh. She taught us a simple joy of learning and exploring as she would often insist that she would do things herself. She liked testing her limits physically and intellectually, yet she rarely risked more than what she was capable of. For this reason we are reassured that it was not just a mere accident that took Suhahn's life, but it was according to God's will that Suhahn went into a pool by herself that warm summer day.

As a child of Minnesota, which means "sky-tinted water" Suhahn has always been close to water and sky. With her photographer and artist parents she traveled the world, including Jerusalem, Petra, Geneva, and London. Suhahn put her feet in Lake Calhoun, Lac Leman, and the oceans of Tel Aviv, Los Angeles. Last time Suhahn was at Santa Monica Beach, she was riding the waves, made a sand castle, covered herself with a sand blanket and giggled while her mom pretended to step on her. She crawled her way back to the car all the way from the beach making a funny long trail behind her. Only the ocean could match Suhahn's bottomless energy source and curiosity. She is one happy child at the beach.

Even though Suhahn did not know the concept of future or possibility of being somewhere else than here-now, she loved saying "When I little grow up, I'm going to Hawaii and buy Mommy coffee. Then Mommy happy?" Since she has never been to Hawaii or seen a picture of it, nobody knows why she thought Hawaii was an awesome place where she can get all the things to make people happy. All we know is that Suhahn is now at a place like Hawaii with many people to share her happiness. For those of us whom Suhahn left behind on earth, Suhahn's love of music, art, and water reminds and nudges us to see beauty and find happiness in here-now.

Suhahn is a grain of seed that fell on the ground to bear many fruits. Suhahn Aanya - whose name means the fire poet who protects Oneness, Korea and God - lives on through her loving parents Taehohn Lee and Bo Kim; sister Loah Lee; paternal grandparents Soon-wook Lee and In-yong Park; maternal grandparents Yong-sun Kim and Mee-hyung Lee; aunts Min Kim, Heekyung Kim, and Esther Lee; uncles Basil Kim and David Chu; cousin Charlotte Chu; pet Somi, and all of her friends who cherish her.
