Sue Sangchai Dow

Sue Sangchai Dow, 99, was born on July 27, 1922, in Kwangju, South Korea, and passed away on December 17, 2021. She resided in Orange, CA, at the time of her death. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California. She leaves behind a son, Ernest Eunsuk Dow, daughter-in-law, Sunny Hyunjoo Dow, and daughter, Emily Eunmee Dow. Eunice Eunshin Dow preceded her on August 18, 2009. Mrs. Dow had three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Adrienne Chie Dow and husband Cliff Kim, Claire Mie Dow and husband John Young, and Christine Sue Dow and husband Andy Lee. She had four great-grandchildren, Asher and Arden Lee, Logan and Noah Kim. Mrs. Dow was married to Yang Simon Dow for 51 years until his death in 1997.

Mrs. Dow was the pioneer in the family, moving from Kwangju to Seoul to study, then from Seoul to the US in 1967 alone as an exchange nurse. She was a rare career woman in an era when most women did not work outside the home. Her family joined her in the US in 1968, and lived in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, and Atlanta, then back to Los Angeles where Mrs. Dow worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles until her retirement at age 72.

Mrs. Dow was a devout Christian, and loved reading, including the Bible. She played the piano, and enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. Her favorite food was yellow corvina, her favorite color purple, and she loved red roses.
