Steven Stanley

June 12, 1946 — May 13, 2024

Steven Douglas Stanley, 77, passed away on May 13th, 2024 in Pasadena, California. Devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, Steve never missed an opportunity to make you laugh. He had a huge heart, an original wit, and was the life of every party. An equity trader by day, Steve devoted much of his spare time to cheering on his children and their friends at team practices and sporting events. Wearing his signature Hawaiian shirt and cowboy boots, he especially enjoyed a poker game with old friends.

Born June 12th, 1946 in Visalia, California, he excelled in several sports including football, baseball and track & field. He followed in his beloved brother Jim’s footsteps and was recruited to play football for UCLA where he met Lisa, his wife of 54 years. Steve was a member of the winning UCLA 1966 Rose Bowl Championship team as a fullback. Thirty-three years later, his son Matt also played fullback for UCLA in the 1999 Rose Bowl Championship, which made Steve profoundly proud.

Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Gertrude Stanley and brother James Stanley (Susan), Steve is survived by his wife Lisa, children Robin and Matthew (Julie), grandsons Jack, Charlie, and Saul Stanley, and sisters Sharon Mumma and Bettelu Anderson.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, followed by a celebration of life at Brookside Golf Club at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena from 2:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in memory of Steve to UCLA Athletic Scholarships at giving.ucla.edu or Alzheimer’s Association at alzfdn.org. AND please share a favorite joke with a friend in Steve’s honor. Steve, or Vern, as his friends affectionately called him, was a heckuva guy.
