Steven Smith

July 9, 1949 — February 21, 2021

Steven Smith, 71, born on July 9, 1949, in Salt Lake City, UT, United States, passed away February 21, 2021. He resided in Palm Springs, CA at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, California.

On the evening that the United States tallied 500,000 deaths from Covid 19, our dear friend Steven became one of those grim statistics. We are simply heart broken and bereft.

Steven embraced life every day he had of it. He loved fine clothes and fine food and drink, particularly with friends. He cherished world travel, adventure, theater, opera, the arts. He had a master's degree in Art Curation and enjoyed sharing art and art history with his friends. He retired from the First Five Commission of San Diego where he managed early education programs. He loved his work.

He is survived by his beloved partner Chuck Fletcher of Lake Elsinore, brothers Greg and Scott Smith from Phoenix, Arizona, and many friends and colleagues.

Chuck and Steven were able to be together in the end. Unlike many Covid patients, Chuck was able to hold Steven's hand as he quietly passed. Before his death, Chuck helped Steven video chat with others and read the caring notes, texts and cards from friends and family. Steven knew that he was loved. We love him still and forever.
