Stanley French

Unexpectedly and too soon, Stanley French passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in Palm Desert, California. Stanley was 73 and leaves his loving partner Judy (Finlayson); son, Stuart; Daughter, Shirley; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Rathlin, and his beloved pets, Chessie and Monty. Born near Belfast, Northern Ireland, Stanley moved to Kenya, Africa to pursue his teaching career and later to Yokohama, Japan where he completed his bachelor's degree at Sophia University. In 1997, he moved to Burnaby to raise his young family, completed a master's program in Education at UBC, and embarked on a distinguished career as a school principal. He was a Charter Member of the BC Principals' and Vice-Principals' association (BCPVPA), and later became its President, Manager of Communications, Executive Director and Honorary Lifetime Member. He retired in 22007 but his contributions to the BCPVPA and efforts on behalf of public education in British Columbia will long be remembered. Reader, writer, hiker, photographer, fardener, politician, poet, traveler, linguist, soccer-mad, and all-around good guy, Stanley touched many throughout his life. Engaged and engaging, our beloved Stanley was a lifelong learner. He will be dearly missed. Details of a memorial will be confirmed in the coming days.
