Sophia Pappas

Sophia Pappas of San Gabriel passed away April 5, 2013 at the age of 86, 73 days following the death of her husband of 58 years, Andrew Pappas.

Born on October 14, 1926, Sophia was the youngest of James and Dena Stamatakos' five children. Moving from Chicago, Illinois to San Pedro California in 1938, Sophia graduated from San Pedro High School and was active in a variety of community and Greek organizations. She married Andy Pappas in 1954 at the then recently constructed St. Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles.

After retiring from Southern California Edison in 1984, Andy and Sophia continued to travel the world for many years making countless new friends along the way, and spending time with their cousins and friends in Greece.

Sophia is survived by sons Greg of Coeur d'Alene Idaho and Lou (Jill) of Arcadia. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Michelle (Spokane, WA), Alex (Sydney Australia), Nick (Pasadena, CA), Mike (Arcadia, CA), Joe (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) and Tim (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho). Funeral services will be held at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
