Sophia Lucille Lazos

December 5, 1918 — January 19, 2018

Sophia Lucille Damigo, was born on December 5th, 1918, in Bicknell Indiana. She was the third oldest of seven siblings, who she fiercely loved, all her life.

Being of Greek and Scotch-Irish heritage, family and food were two things that went hand in hand and she was truly in her element when both were in arms reach. She loved entertaining her family or meeting up just to hang out, they were everything to her.

She was a culinary queen and made many wonderful dishes but two items that really stand out were her signature peanut butter fudge and Koulourakia cookies. Getting to make them with her, was absolutely priceless.

She was spunky, beautiful and talented. In addition to cooking, crafting and drawing, she also loved teaching Sunday school. But her absolute favorite thing to do, was dote on her wonderful husband, Frank Lazos, who she married on September 18th, 1949. And together, they doted on their extended families. She was always, all about family. Not having children of their own, never hindered them. Their families were their children and that fact never changed.

Frank and Sophie loved Hawaii. They tried to travel there whenever they could and also met there for reunions with Frank's former submarine buddies. They loved going to the Greek festivals and out to eat and many neighborhood restaurants knew them by name. They were so in love, did everything together and made such a cute couple. They had the marriage most people dream of. They had such fun together and were such characters and could even be caught on occasion announcing themselves as "Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren."

She was fit as a fiddle and she and Frank were "clean eating" long before the trend and catch phrase became popular. They both lifted weights and Sophie even had her own set. And her high kicks were legendary!

Sophie loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and everything she did or said, was a result of that relationship with her savior. One of our favorite memories was calling her to ask for prayer and before we could even finish asking, she would say "I'm on my knees!" Her prayers have carried and strengthened many of us throughout the years.

Winston Churchill once said "We make a living by what we get...We make a life by what we give." This statement epitomizes Sophie. It was part and parcel of who she was. She gave to all, be it her time, prayers, or her unconditional love. She reflected that beautiful light and love all her life and directed her affections to all. No one was left out of Sophie's embrace.

Her residence is now in heaven, reunited with her beloved husband Frank, all their siblings and their parents, and all who have gone ahead. She is happy beyond imagination, complete and content at last, safe in the arms of Jesus.
