Sonia Martinez

Sonia Martinez, 86, born on November 17, 1937, in Coamo, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Oscar Borges and Paula Matos and is survived by her sister Olga Rivera.  She passed away February 15, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the wife of Jose Angel Martinez and they shared  62  years of marriage. They moved to California in 1962 and found their forever home in Garden Grove in 1967 where they raised their young family.  Sonia and Jose have three children - Joe Martinez, Lisa Milligan, and Scott Martinez. During the past fifteen year's of Sonia's suffering from the disease, Jose devoted his time to lovingly care for his beautiful bride. The family was also blessed to have the caregiving partnership of Florica Pinte for many years.

Sonia was employed by the Westminster School District for 22 1/2 years as a Spanish Translator/Interpreter. She was loved by so many in the district and her work with the children and parents meant the world to her.  She enjoyed spending time with her co-workers socially outside of work as well.  She adored being a grandmother to Megan, Nicole, Hannah, Alexandra, Leni and Nina and great grandmother to Elliana and Rowan.  Her warm and loving personality was what made her so special to her family and friends.

Services will be held on March 21, 2024 at 9:00 am in the Patriots Chapel at Forest Lawn Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA 90630. Parking is provided at the chapel. 

Guests are welcome to join the family at 11:00 am for the luncheon immediately following ceremony. The luncheon is being held at the 

Navy Golf Course, Community Center and Clubhouse.  Paul Moreno Room, 5660 Orangewood Ave., Cypress, CA  90630. 

There are no special requirements to enter the golf course, and ample parking is provided.

All are welcome for the Graveside Service at Forest Lawn Cypress on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30 am. This will take place at the Ascension Gardens.
