Socimo Rambac Ramoran, 91, was born on August 30, 1928 in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Aquilino and Pilar Ramoran. He passed away on September 25, 2019 at his home in the neighborhood of Veterans Tract, Palm Springs, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Sionita Agregado Ramoran, son Florante Ramoran, sister Patricia Ramoran, and brother Jose Rizal Ramoran. In 1956, he married Clemencia Mariana Tangonan in baranggay Cabayo, Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Both of them were widowed and each had a son before meeting and falling in love. Through his father's efforts in family reunification afforded by the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, he immigrated in 1967 to the United States, and his wife and children would follow in 1968. Only going back to visit family in the Philippines once in 1998 during the Philippine Centennial, he remained a permanent legal resident of the Untied States until his passing.
Growing up and working as a farmer and laborer, he never received any formal education. In the United States, he began as a migrant farmworker just as his "Manong Generation" father and uncles before him in the California grape fields from Delano to the Coachella Valley. Following their father's lead, he and his brother and their families all moved from their first home in Delano to Palm Springs. Socimo and his wife would also live briefly with their children before building a home next door to them and across from his father and mother's home in the Veteran's Tract neighborhood of Palm Springs in 1973. He had a green thumb and focused so much of his time and care on the family's vegetable garden. He worked many double jobs in the desert including houseman, kitchen help, and food server, at places including the Palm Springs Racquet Club, Canyon Hotel, Marquis Hotel, and the Elks Lodge. Before retiring, his last dishwasher job was at Wellington Place in Rancho Mirage. He was a member of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union Local #309. A devout Christian, he was an active member and deacon of the Palm Springs Filipino-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Desert Hot Springs.
He is survived by his wife Clemencia Mariana Tangonan Ramoran of Palm Springs, CA; son Joel Ramoran of Palm Springs, CA; son Rodrigo Butac of Palm Springs, CA; daughter Jophie Pease of Kapaa, HI; son Nelson Ramoran of Torrance, CA; son Edwin Ramoran of Palm Springs, CA; daughter Marites Joy Ramoran of Long Beach, CA; his grandchildren Cynthia Butac-Arnold, Joel Ramoran, Jr., Jeffrey Pease, Jenny-Liza Ramoran, Jason Pease, Jack Ramoran, Jonathan Pease, Ethan Ramoran, and Alison Ramoran; and great grandchildren Jayna Pease, Janessa Pease, August Jonathan Scott Pease, and Kecef Lewis von Tischner.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations made "In Loving Memory of Socimo Ramoran to Battle Cancer" for health ministry to Palm Springs Filipino-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 13370 Ocotillo Road, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240.
