Silvio (Sy) A. Filippelli

Silvio A. Filippelli, 91, of Palm Desert, Calif., passed away on April 26, 2013 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was born November 29, 1921 to Luigi Filippelli and Teresa (Ricciardi) Filippelli in Guardia Sanframondi, Italy. Sy came to the U.S. at the age of 2. He served in the Navy as a gunnery instructor during WWII. He married Antoinette Di Masso on July 24, 1948 in Waterbury, Conn. They were married for 64 wonderful years until Ann's passing in 2012. Sy was a self-made man of many accomplishments. He graduated from USC dental school. He was an astute businessman who also had a knack for gardening and carpentry. Family, however, was his most treasured accomplishment. He is survived by his five children, Karen De Wilde of Australia, Elyse Shafer of Riverside, Calif., Janice Deegan of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Gregg Filippelli and Joy Filippelli, both of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Sy was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries.
